Guillermo Hernández Barrocal (Valladolid, 2008) gave his first recital at just eight years old and made his debut as a soloist with orchestra at eleven, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. He recorded his first album in 2021, and his awards include First Prize and the Audience Award at the 5th Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition in Tokyo, Second Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists in the United States, and the Jeune Chopin Competition in Switzerland. He currently studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Stanislav Ioudenitch.
Training
He began piano lessons at the age of eight and, at thirteen, completed his professional studies at the Valladolid Conservatory under Eva Gigosos. In parallel, on a scholarship from the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska in Madrid, he studied for four years with Andrey Yaroshinsky.
Guillermo currently studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Stanislav Ioudenitch, Gold Medal winner at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He previously studied with Martín García García, bronze medallist at the XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition.
He has also attended masterclasses with renowned figures such as Josep Colom, Joaquín Soriano, Ana Guijarro and Pavel Gililov, and has received scholarships for summer academies in Spain, Italy and the United States.
International Competitions
In 2026 he won Second Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists (USA), after reaching the final with the Canton Symphony Orchestra. In 2025 he won First Prize and the Audience Award at the 5th Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition (Tokyo), and he had previously won the Jeune Chopin Competition in Lugano (Switzerland).
As a child, Guillermo won several piano competitions in Spain, most notably the Ciudad de Estepona Young Performers Competition, and achieved international success with First Prize at the Pernik International Competition (Bulgaria), Second Prize at the César Franck Competition in Brussels and a place in the semifinal of the Nutcracker Competition in Moscow.
Festivals and Concerts
From an early age, Guillermo has enjoyed many opportunities to perform for audiences. It was an honour for the young pianist to be invited by the Chopin Institute to give a recital at the composer’s birthplace in Żelazowa Wola (Poland).
Other places where he has had the pleasure of performing include New York, Katowice, Orlando and Lausanne, as well as festivals such as Cap Roig alongside Ainhoa Arteta and Andrés Salado, the Festival dell’Alto Adige in Dobbiaco, Madrid Piano City at the Conde Duque auditorium, the Jesús López Cobos festival at the Teatro Latorre in Toro, Las Piedras Cantan in León and Aguilar de Campoo, and MUSEG in Segovia.
He made his debut as a soloist with orchestra at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid under the award-winning conductor Ramón Torrelledó, and has since appeared in Málaga with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, twice in Sofia with the Pernik String Orchestra, and twice at the Auditorio Ciudad de León with the JOL. It was at the León Auditorium, aged eleven, that he performed his first piano concerto with orchestra: Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3.
In April 2024 he performed Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the OSCYL at the Auditorio Miguel Delibes in Valladolid, and in November that year he made his solo recital debut at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.

He has appeared on programmes such as La Partitura (Toro TV), “Andante con Moto” on RNE (Spanish National Radio) and the first season of Prodigios on TVE (Spanish Television).

Orchestras
Guillermo has performed with the OSCYL (Castile and León Symphony Orchestra) at the Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes; twice with the JOL (León Youth Orchestra) at the León Auditorium; twice with the Orphei Pernik Orchestra (Bulgaria) in Pernik and Sofia; with the Talentos Partytura Consort at the Auditorio Nacional; and with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra at the Auditorio Edgar Neville in Málaga.

Guillermo’s repertoire includes six piano concertos, ten chamber music works and a wide range of solo pieces spanning virtually all the great composers of the classical canon.
